Fighting Fibromyalgia by TerrorCookie Fighting Fibromyalgia by TerrorCookie
This is for Fibromyalgia Awareness Week.

This will be part of the I Know Fibro Photo Collage. I asked *PotterShareCares if I could get my step-dad to contribute a photo in my place, and they said yes. My step-dad, Don, has fibromyalgia himself and he is the one in the picture that you see here. He's very positive about his fight against fibromyalgia.

I didn't take this picture myself. My parents live fourteen hours away, so they kindly put it together and e-mailed it to me. All credit goes to them.

See how green it is in the background? It wasn't that green when I left to go back to the city. *shakes fish*

Fibromyalgia Awareness Week officially ended last Sunday, but was extended due to busy schedules and chaos. Read more about that here. If you still want to participate in some of the activities, you have until May 25, 2008.

i know you don't know but just though i'd throw that out there!:)

Yes, it's very severe for him. But despite that he's very pleasant to be around and a great person. I don't know how he does it!

He said he has tried everything, but I'll mention it anyway. (:

Thanks!

that's totally awesome. such a great message. i've been fighting it for several years now, and it was getting the better of me for a while - went through some really hard times. but i've somehow managed to turn my attitude around - i feel like i have a new lease on life. i'm really happy for the first time in years, and it's making all the difference.

i'm winning now, and i will not be defeated again.

thanks so much for the positive message. :)

I know a few people with fibromyalgia and i didn\'t know it could effect men. Now I have learned something new thanks for sharing the photo and teaching me something new.

Apparently it affects more women than men, but men can still be affected.

You're welcome. Thank you for opening yourself up to the knowledge! :rose:

I know it was originally thought to be 'all in womens heads', and some doctors still don't think it is a real condition.

I first leaned about it from my therapist, who has it. I think my sister has it but she doesn't have insurance so she can't see a doctor :-(

That's harsh. I hope she gets insurance soon. :(

I didn't know it used to be thought of that way. My step-dad said that it's not covered well enough through insurance either. I guess because it's a lifelong treatment, and they don't want to spend extra money when they don't take it that serious. That bothers me, especially because I've seen how bad the effects can be. Frustrating.

my mom's friends Katie AND Harriet both have fibromyalgia. they're pretty positive about it too, but it really sounds hard :c i felt really bad when when Katie came over for New Years Eve she had to take time from the party go take her medicine. (Harriet had taken hers earlier :P)

i just really like this picture, it's like...really awesome for some reason :D

Thank you! I'm glad you like it! :aww:

It is hard. I've never had to deal with intense physical pain like that before, so I can't even begin to understand how it feels, but I hope they're taking good care of themselves.

Harriet's a masseuse so she gives Katie free massages in exchange for Katie being the editor of a novel >w< (a bad novel, I've heard. But we don't tell Harriet that.)

I couldn't imagine living with fibromyalgia, because I'm such a dork about pain. I complain about the littlest things.

It's nice that they help each other out. :)

I complain too. I can barely stand papercuts! :crying:

I seem to be able to handle larger cuts, though. Burns are the worst of everything. I have a hard time dealing with those. I take it all for granted. :depressed:

Well....papercuts are evil. :P No, it's just that they sting. I find larger cuts easier to handle as well. As for burns, i stepped on a hot poker before :/ Burns do really suck >.< And while unfortunate, I think it's probably human nature to take things for granted.

I've never had a burn on my foot, but I imagine it would be very painful! :omfg:

I think we sort of evolved to take things for granted, but it's something that I want to try to overcome.

Yeah, I don't like to take things for granted, because other people can't.

And trust me....burned feet aren't fun. :XD:
