Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me.

Sadly I will be alone for this one. Matt had to do a concert he didn't want to do, so I will be live tweeting (humonlazydiva) my impression of the whole shebang.

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

Fixed

The problem seems to have fixed itself somehow. I don't know if it's temporary or not, but I'm hoping for the best. Thanks to everyone who offered their advice. :]

Internet Fail

I hadn't planned to update again for a while, sorry. :/

I'm having trouble with my internet and I don't know what's causing it. Every time I try to stream a video online, or music, my internet disconnects. It has been doing this for at least three or four days (no longer than a week).

Does anyone know what might be causing it? I have Windows XP and even though our router is wireless, my connection is grounded.

Hrm... am going to assume you can reconnect pretty quick, and that it's your connection in home, rather than the line itself.

But something that might be potentially the cause, is interference from other wireless connections. Especially since you say it's on streams, which are connection sensitive/intensive. Changing the channel used on the router might help... most of them default and get forced onto six, so if they're near each other there can be issues.

Just one random idea anyway...
